Public ratings, with the caveats
We only print a score we saw ourselves, with the date and the place. On 29 October 2026 that came down to one platform, Google Maps, and a list of booking sites that would not load.
What we saw
On 29 October 2026 the Google Maps card for Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa showed an average of 3.9 out of 5 from 4,991 reviews, and labelled the property a 4-star hotel. Keep in mind that the card covers the whole property — casino, restaurants, concerts and hotel — and that the site had a casino for years before the hotel opened, so a large share of those reviews are not about staying the night. A score for the hotel alone is not something Google shows separately.
What we could not see
We tried the large booking sites the same day. Expedia and Travelocity refused our requests with a rate-limit error, Tripadvisor returned an access error, and Hotels.com timed out. Search engines show snippets with scores from these sites, but snippets are not a page we read, and the figures in them disagreed with each other. So we print none of them.
How to read reviews of this hotel
- Check the dates. The hotel opened on 3 July 2025. Anything older is about the casino or the racetrack, not the rooms.
- Separate the hotel from the floor. A review about the casino tells you little about the bed.
- Look for the things the hotel does not publish. Reviews are a good source on check-in times, noise and room layout — the gaps in the official pages.
- Expect complaints that match the facts. Guests who expected a pool, a spa or a short walk downtown will be disappointed, because none of those exist.
- Weigh show nights. A Saturday with a sold-out concert and a two-hour seating limit at the café is a different experience from a quiet Tuesday.
Our editor's verdict
We have not slept there under cover and we will not pretend we have. What we can judge is the published offer: new rooms in four clear categories, a large concert hall in the same building, late food every night and a gym that never closes, against no pool, no spa, a 20 km gap to downtown and a 19+ rule for everyone. For a show night, that is a strong offer. The full reasoning is in the verdict.
