Wave of riders hits PCH for Surf City 10 – Orange County Register
The Surf City 10 returned on Sunday, drawing thousands who had the Pacific Coast Highway to themselves for the morning.
The four-line road was closed to traffic as runners and walkers completed the 10-mile, 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races that make up the popular event.
The Huntington Beach event had not taken place since the start of the pandemic.
“We’ve been waiting for the storm so we can get back to our traditions,” Event Operations Manager Natalia Mendez said of Surf City 10’s return this year. “It’s about community and coming together.”
The Surf City 10 is a tradition in the city, celebrating its 66th edition this year. That makes it the oldest race in Orange County, organizers confirmed. The event began as the Huntington Beach Distance Derby. Organizers said it was the oldest 10-mile race in the United States.
