Sebastian Inlet surfer meets sharks up close
SEBASTIAN, Fla – A surfer near Sebastian Inlet recently found himself among a few sharks looking for a quick meal.
Laura Evans said her fiance, Eli McDonald, went to the cove on October 3 to soak up the sun and have some fun and catch a few waves.
Evans said while McDonald was surfing, a nearby school of mules was chased by a tarpon and other fish surrounded it.
Meanwhile, a few sharks also got a little too close for comfort.
“Fortunately, I always take surf photos of my fiance, and as soon as I noticed all the jumping mules I started taking photos and managed to capture the two close encounters. [with sharks] in the midst of all the chaos, ”Evans said in an email to WPTV. “It was hard to stay focused once I realized there were sharks in the mix because at that point I was praying that he didn’t get bitten.
Evans said she wanted to start screaming, but since McDonald’s was a surfer most of his life, she believed he would be able to handle the situation.
“It was crazy because as soon as this incident ended, I looked towards the pier and every surfer in the water was heading for the shore,” Evans said.
She said McDonald’s escaped the frightening encounter without a scratch.
