Rose heads to state track finals, posts best preliminary time in 200 meters

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Jettason Rose is in a prime position to finish his prep track career atop the podium.

The Quincy High School senior sprinter clocked the fastest time in the 200-meter prelims during the Class 3A men’s track and field championships Friday at O’Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University.

Rose took first place in 21.76 seconds, 0.22 seconds ahead of Thornton Fractional’s Ryan Coleman. Nobody else broke 22 seconds.

This will be one of two finals Rose will compete in on Saturday. He qualified for the 100m sprint final in sixth place in 10.84 seconds. Will Stewart of Palatine Fremd led the field at 10.57 seconds.

Reid Savage of the Blue Devils missed a shot in the 110 hurdles final, finishing 13th in 15.33 seconds. QHS’ LaMarrio Rodgers finished 18th in the discus throw with a throw of 45.55 yards.
