On Wednesday night, the Pulaski River Turtles fell to the Johnson City Doughboys, 22-13.

If you’re an offense fan, this was the game to watch with 32 combined hits and 35 combined runs. The match was Pulaski’s most notable outing this season, but it turned out to be Johnson City’s night out.

Johnson City swung out of the gates, scoring five runs off the top of the first. Pulaski cut that lead to two on a moon three-pointer from receiver Ryan Johnson, making it 5-3 after one.

Johnson City made another run in the second, but a Johnson RBI single nullified that run. The Doughboys scored three goals in the third, then followed that up with five in the fourth. Pulaski cut the lead with a four-point bottom of the fourth. The first two runs came off a two-run brace from second baseman Ryan Moerman. A two-run single by designated hitter Ryan Groves brought the next two runs to make it 14-8 heading into the fifth inning.

The success continued for Johnson City as they scored two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth. Pulaski worked to get back into the game with a sixth three-pointer and a seventh two-pointer. All three runs in the sixth came off the bats of center fielder Christian Smith and Groves, both hitting moonshots to right field. The two runs in the seventh came from a fielding error to help bring in Carter Newman and Moerman.

Johnson City then scored an insurance run in the eighth to make the final 22-13.

Pulaski will look to bounce back Thursday with a rematch against the Johnson City Doughboys.
