River Plate Names Amazon Prime Video as Back of Shirt Sponsor in $2.5M Deal

- One-year sponsorship deal is Amazon Prime Video’s first in Argentina
- Amazon became Napoli’s sponsor in August last year
Argentinian football giants River Plate have revealed a new partnership with Amazon Prime Video which will see the streaming platform’s logo featured on the back of the team’s game shirts and on training wear.
The one-year deal, which is Amazon Prime Video’s first sponsorship deal in Argentina, is reportedly worth $2.5 million, according to Argentine newspaper Clarín.
The video platform joins a sponsorship portfolio that also includes Turkish Airlines, sportswear brand Adidas, Spanish gaming company Codere, crypto platform Socios.com and video game developer Konami. From August, Codere will replace Turkish Airlines as main shirt sponsor of River Plate.
“It is a pride to finalize this agreement with such a prestigious company as Amazon Prime Video and that River Plate is the first club with which Amazon Prime Video makes an alliance of this type in Argentina”, said Jorge Brito, president of River Plate.
“This link is just the beginning of many actions that we can surely take with two very important brands loved by audiences around the world, such as River Plate and Amazon Prime Video.”
Amazon has spent the past few years acquiring the rights to various sports leagues and competitions in multiple markets, but its investment in sponsorship has been limited. However, last year the company became the sponsor of Italian soccer club Napoli in a deal worth 2 million euros ($2.3 million) per season.
