Puffin Insurance offers annual single trip and multi-trip policies for individuals, couples, families and groups, aged 18-84.

The insurer is based in Wales, with its travel insurance business in Surrey. Puffin’s travel insurance policies are underwritten by Inter Partner Assistance UK Branch – part of the AXA Group – and are authorized and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Why should I consider Puffin?

Puffin offers three levels of travel insurance: Silver, Gold and Platinum. Its Platinum policies are the most comprehensive, including, for example, up to £5,000 of holiday cancellation cover. This compares to £3,000 for a Gold policy and £1,000 for a Silver policy.

However, all policy levels provide up to £10 million of medical costs and repatriation cover.

Puffin’s standard travel insurance covers 100 common vacation activities, including surfing and waterskiing. But adventurers who plan to participate in high-risk activities such as abseiling, kitesurfing and bungee jumping can equip themselves with an “activity pack” for an additional fee.

Winter sports, such as skiing and snowboarding, must also be covered separately.

All Puffin travel insurance policies include £500 gadget cover as standard, with the option to extend cover to £1000 at an additional cost.

How to contact Puffin Insurance

If you wish to take out or change a travel insurance policy with Puffin, its customer service can be contacted by telephone on 0333 772 0346 Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, or by email at [email protected] Policies can also be purchased online at Puffininsurance.com.

In the event that you need to make a claim under any section of your policy – apart from the Gadget Extension or Scheduled Airline Breakdown sections – you should call 0333 999 7932 – you can submit your application online. You can also call the insurer on 02038 599 317.

How to find the best travel coverage for you

When comparing travel insurance policies, it’s important to look beyond cost, as choosing a policy just because it’s cheap could put you at risk of being underinsured.

According to our travel insurance partner CYTI, the majority (85%) of travel insurance claims are for overseas medical treatment and trip cancellations. The remaining part is made up of claims for lost baggage and property, as well as travel disruptions and delayed departures.

So always check the level of cover for these particular aspects carefully, so you know how much cover is included with the level of travel policy you choose.

Why it makes sense to compare products and suppliers

Comparing policies from a range of travel insurance providers means getting the cover you need at the best price. And using a travel insurance comparison tool allows you to find the cheapest quotes based on your key requirements.

Just enter a few details about yourself and the nature of your trip, and it’ll show you the right deals in seconds.
