Proposed sports complex for Enon, Mad River Twp.
“It was a long and nerve-wracking process,” he said.
Hanna said the village and township plan to work with an engineering firm to “maximize the potential” of the field for football, softball, baseball, a dog park, nature walk and more. recreational activities.
Development of the land in the proposed sports complex can take between two and 10 years, Hanna said. An engineering firm has not yet been chosen, but the land will not require rezoning.
The village is also working on developing an ADA complaint facility in adjacent Enon Park, with grants “already underway,” Hanna said.
Another important aspect of the land purchase relates to protecting the village’s drinking water supply, said Enon Mayor Tim Howard. The village’s existing well field – which carries water to the people of Mad River Twp. – is located close to the recently purchased property.
“The best way to protect groundwater is to own property in your catchment area,” Howard said. “If you can control usage and own it, that’s the best opportunity you can have. This will give us the opportunity to protect this precious resource.
Mad River Township President Todd Pettit. administrators, said the township was pleased to partner with the village to provide more opportunities for families in the community. The township portion can be funded by American Rescue Plan Act dollars, he said.
Village and township officials say they hope the recreation area will encourage families to come to the area and perhaps make it their home, Hanna said.
“We’re looking forward to lots of lawn mowing, lots of fun for our kids, our parents and ourselves,” Hanna said.
