Pacific Palisades teenager to sail for the United States in Youth World competition

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA – A native of Pacific Palisades will represent the United States at the 2021 World Youth Sailing Championships in Oman in December.
Katharine Doble of Pacific Palisades is one of 16 athletes chosen by US Sailing. Doble will take part in the âdinghy women’s single-seaterâ event at the 50th annual competition, which takes place December 11-18 in Al-Mussanah, Oman.
The U.S. team is made up of athletes, all under the age of 19, from across the country – stretching from Hawaii to the West Coast, Midwest, East Coast and Gulf Coast.
Members will travel with Team Leader Phil Muller – who was named the 2020 U.S. Sailing Development Coach of the Year – and two other coaches.
âYouth Worlds is a really special event because it showcases the best young talents from around the worldâ, Muller said in a press release on the US Sailing website. “The team’s impressive geographic spread is a testament to our country’s strength of commitment to youth sailing as well as the regional programs and coaches who are committed to the growth and development of these athletes and the support which they provided to help them reach the top of their field. “
The annual competition was canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and Olympic Development Director Leandro Spina said the United States will return with a “very strong squad.”
“We have new faces and new talents in the team and we will welcome FormulaKite (a European kitesurfing competition) to the class list for the first time in Youth Worlds history, âsaid Spina.
