One day after winning the “Ultimate Surfer” title, Ezekiel Lau from Hawaii continues his momentum at the US Open of Surfing
A memorable week for Hawaii’s Ezekiel Lau continued on Wednesday, where one day after winning the title of “The Ultimate Surfer” in the ABC show’s season finale, Lau qualified for the 24th. of the Huntington Beach US Open of Surfing presented by Shiséido.
Lau, a Kamehameha graduate and former Championship Tour (CT) contender posted a total of 13.63 over two waves in a cumulative streak that also included Kolohe Andino (11.17), Adin Masencamp (10.07) and Conner Coffin (9.30).
“It’s great (to win the Ultimate Surfer) and it was a great experience for me,” said Lau. “Something that was off the beaten track for me, but I think about it now and it was amazing – not only because I won, but just the whole experience. I learned a lot about myself and I “I’m trying here to use everything I’ve learned. I want to qualify in any way I can and I’m looking to win the SC so that’s my plan here.
Lau’s victory in the reality TV series has earned him a top prize of $ 100,000 as well as places in three events of the prestigious Championship Tour of the World Surf League next season.
Surfing permitting, the US Open of Surfing continues on Wednesday with a first call scheduled for 5:05 am HST with Men’s Round 2 Heat 9 first on the schedule with Women’s Round 2 pending.
