Marvel, DC Artist Shares Silver Surfer Art Inspired by Planet Hulk

Comics artist Mike McKone brings the Silver Surfer back to 2006 with fan art that sees the Herald of Galactus as he was in a big Hulk story.
Artwork by veteran comic book artist Mike McKone brings Marvel’s Silver Surfer back to the iconic Pontoon “Planet Hulk” event.
McKone, best known for his work on DC Comics Teen Titans and Marvel Comics’ Exiles and The Fantastic Four, posted the version of the First Herald of Galactus on his official Twitter account, shown as he appeared in The Incredible Hulk #95. The image depicts the hero ready for battle, using his board as a shield and wielding a large savage mace while wearing bronze-colored armor. That’s exactly how he appeared when he was called “Silver Savage” by viewers to fight against the green goliath in the comics.
Created by Jack Kirby, the Silver Surfer first appeared in The Fantastic Four #48 (1966). Named Norrin Radd, he began as an astronomer on his home planet, Zenn-La, before offering himself to Galactus and becoming the herald of the Eater of Worlds so that his world would be spared. The character quickly became a fan favorite among comic book readers after his debut, and still remains popular today with appearances in the recent Defenders upcoming miniseries and title Silver Surfer: Rebirth, which will be released on January 19.
However, the Silver Surfer has appeared in numerous media beyond comic books, including several video games, animated television series, novels, and more. As for film, in 1989 film student Erik Fleming received permission from Marvel to create a short film about the surfer, but the character wouldn’t make his official big-screen debut until 2007. Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer. He was portrayed by Doug Jones but voiced by Laurence Fishburne. The film’s predecessor, The Fantastic Four (2005), is available to stream on Disney+ with the sequel streaming on Peacock TV.
Speaking of live-action adaptations, the closest glimpse fans got of the “Planet Hulk” adaptation was in Thor: Ragnarok for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although he saw an animated film in 2010. In the original comic book storyline, the Hulk was banished from Earth and sent into space by other Marvel heroes, this is how he landed on the planet Sakaar. However, in the MCU, the Hulk chose not to return to his teammates for Avengers: Age of Ultron and ended up spending two years in the world before Thor found him.
Hulk’s next live-action (or realistic CGI) appearance is set to take place in She-Hulk on Disney+. Since the series is supposed to introduce the Hulk’s son, Skaar, and usher in a world war hulk project for the MCU, an event that followed “Planet Hulk”, if Silver Surfer appears in the MCU anytime soon and the rumors turn out to be true, Marvel fans might see this outfit on the big screen one day.
