Lots to See on a Cruise and Kayak the Apostle Islands | News, Sports, Jobs
Apostle Islands Cruises and Apostle Islands Kayaking from Bayfield, Wisconsin are the new members of the Algiers County Chamber of Commerce.
Home to the highest concentration of lighthouses in North America, 21 islands with sandstone cliffs and sea caves and 12 miles of shoreline make up the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Scattered along Lake Superior, the “Apostles” were carved out by the great lake over thousands of years, creating today’s picturesque features that are best seen by boat or kayak.
Operating daily from Bayfield from late May to mid-October, Apostle Islands Cruises is licensed by the National Park Service and the US Department of the Interior as a park concessionaire. The company offers narrated sightseeing cruises and charter trips to islands and sites off the shores of National Lake.
The Grand Tour, a 3-hour cruise that takes passengers 55 miles along the lake, is the most popular excursion. On board, passengers will see the historic lighthouses of Raspberry and Devils Island, towering rocks, amazing sea caves, and marine life.
A new addition to the Bayfield area this year is Apostle Islands Kayaking – the only boat assisted kayaking adventure on the shores of National Lake. The company will be offering daily half-day getaways from June 3 through early October.
With Apostle Islands Kayaking, paddlers first board a kayak launch boat and bask in the beautiful scenery before being placed in the water in tandem sea kayaks near some of the best. parts of the park. From here, kayakers explore approximately eight kilometers of sea caves, cliffs, rock formations, and hidden beaches on the Apostle Islands. The boat, which is equipped with bathrooms, is located offshore for the duration of the kayaking excursion. Once the paddling portion is over, which lasts approximately two hours, the kayakers board the boat and return to Bayfield.
