Kayaker rescued after struggling in Powys River
A kayaker has been rescued after falling into a river in a town in Powys.
Emergency services were dispatched to help the woman who ran into difficulty in the River Usk near Brecon Promenade at 12.16pm this afternoon (Friday).
She was rescued by another kayaker before crews arrived who then treated her for her injuries.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Services praised the group of kayakers for their good planning and preparation.
Resort manager Neil Evans said: ‘This incident could have ended very badly had it not been for the careful planning of the group of people who went kayaking on the river today.
“The woman who fell in the water was part of an organized group and participated in this group water activity, so if one person gets in trouble, others can respond. Her friend was carrying a cell phone, in a waterproof pouch, and was able to call 999 at the first sign of trouble, allowing emergency services to be on the scene within minutes.
“This incident has highlighted the importance of wearing a personal flotation device (PFD) and, also, how important it is to plan, prepare and accompany a group of people during any water activity. free.”
Brecon and Llandrindod Wells fire crews provided first aid to the victim and left the incident just after 1pm.
