HSWR: 16 Lowco grapplers still chasing gold at May River Invitational
Georgia Powerhouse Class 7A Camden County leads with Peach State rival South Effingham, but host May River is in sixth place among 32 teams and 16 Lowco wrestlers are still chasing gold after the day opening of the May River Shark Invitation Wednesday.
Camden County racked up 87 points on day one and there are still 13 wrestlers left in the championship heading into Thursday’s quarter-finals. South Effingham is just five points behind with 10 wrestlers in the quarterfinals, while Summerville is third with 76 points and 11 quarterfinals.
Host Sharks sits in sixth place with 66 points and six wrestlers remaining in the gold hunt – Emilio Mendoza (120), Isaiah Wysong (132), EJ Seman (138), Santiago Rueda (145), Gabe Juarez ( 170) and Chris Snowden (182).
Hilton Head High is in 11th place after day one with five wrestlers still chasing individual titles – Drew Vigh (132), Darnell Browner (145), KJ Holland (152), Jimmy Jacobs (160) and Brayven Shapiro (285 ).
Beaufort High’s Andrew Legree (145), Peter Adam Burnevich (160) and Colton Phares (182) are still undefeated in the tournament, as are Sam Degroat (120) of Battery Creek and Bradley Denmark (285) of Bluffton.
The fight resumes Thursday at 10 am.
