WHAT IS ON

October 23, 2021 – 7:00 a.m.

A businessman donated kayaks to encourage the city’s youth and families to take advantage of one of “Wagga’s greatest assets”.

George Cloros, a supporter of the Wagga Boat Club, wanted to see more people enjoy “beautiful” Lake Albert, so he decided to do something about it.

The founder of Redback Boots bought kayaks for adults and children and donated them to the club to encourage more people to get out on the water.

“I think back to my childhood in Sydney, and we were always on the water,” Mr. Cloros said.

“Sometimes I think young people these days don’t have enough to do, so they’re always on the cutting edge, and I wanted to help change that a bit.

“I think recreation is better than sitting indoors and waiting for something to happen because you have the capacity to learn and enjoy.”

Mr Cloros said it was great to see children on the lake using the kayaks and he felt transported back to his own childhood.

Anna Bolton, responsible for the club’s functions and administration, said she was very grateful to Mr Cloros for donating the water sports boats. It was an exciting addition to the yacht club’s resources.

“We’ve only been doing this for two or three weeks, and now with the time that presents itself, we’re going to push it a bit further,” she said.

“There’s not much to do, so I think people are looking for some outdoor activities to enjoy the good weather, and why wouldn’t you want to be on the water?

Ms Bolton said anyone wishing to set aside time with the kayaks can call the Wagga Boat Club to reserve a time slot.
