Coroner: Pennsylvania man dies after kayak jump in SC Lake
COLOMBIA, South Carolina
A man from Pennsylvania visiting South Carolina to attend a wedding drowned in Lake Hartwell early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The body of Kellen Jerome Mackey, 26, was found before noon on Saturday after an initial 911 call around 2:15 a.m. Saturday about a missing person who was presumed to have drowned, the Oconee County coroner’s office said.
The coroner’s office said Mackey allegedly got into a kayak on the lake and rolled over. Mackey was not wearing a personal flotation device and could not swim, the coroner’s office reported.
The drowning occurred in the Martin Creek area of Hartwell Lake near Seneca, the coroner’s office said.
A resident of New Brighton, Pa., Mackey was in South Carolina to attend a wedding party at a house near Cartee Road, the coroner’s office said.
