After 11 weeks as PM, Albanians kayak, visit art and eat oysters
Anthony Albanese was spotted kayaking, enjoying art and dining at a cute oyster bar just 11 weeks into his tenure.
Last Friday, the prime minister said he would take his first holiday since May. Richard Marles will be in charge during his absence.
Mr Albanese never said where he was going on holiday but said he would stay in Australia.
The couple enjoyed a romantic meal at Sydney Cove Oyster Bar near Cable Beach in Broome on Sunday.
The seafood restaurant posted a photo of Mr Albanese with workers on Facebook and commented on his welcome.
Last night Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his girlfriend Jodie Haydon dined with us on deck.
Both Albanese and Haydon were aware of the restaurant’s move from Circular Quay to Broome last year, which included 17 staff.
They were aware of our transfer from Circular Quay to Broome, much to our amazement.
After dinner, the Prime Minister “politely offered” to pose with the workers.
“Love how these Broome youngsters started out as dish hands and oyster shuckers,” the restaurant’s post said.
On Monday, the Prime Minister was spotted with Ms Haydon at Art Above.
He offered an impromptu statement on the value of art in society and communities.
The Kimberley Arts Network posted a snapshot of Mr Albanese conversing with Clancy McDowell ahead of his speech.
Kimberley Arts Network tweeted: “Last night we showed @albomp and Jodie Haydon through the exhibition and talked about the remarkable range of artistic practice here in the Kimberley.”
Naomi Hatherley, an artist at the event, said: “It’s not every day you talk to the Prime Minister about your art, about women’s football and how it all started.”
She said Mr Albanese and Ms Haydon were ‘humble, curious, gracious and generous with their time’.
On Tuesday morning, the top duo were seen kayaking around the Broome coast.
The two went on a kayaking tour with turtles with Broome Adventures, who posted a photo of them and said they were shocked by the Prime Minister’s arrival.
We had the Australian Prime Minister and his wife here today. Such a great day and a lovely surprise for everyone on the Broome Turtle Kayak,’ the post said.
It is unclear how long the Prime Minister and his partner will stay in Broome.
He will return on August 14.
