Actress Cate Blanchett sells her Down Under home in just three weeks
Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett and her husband, playwright and director Andrew Upton, had little trouble finding a buyer for their historic home in suburban Sydney, Australia.
Listed in mid-August for around $ 14.75 million, the stoneware house known as Bulwarra closed the sale this week for around $ 14.1 million after just three weeks on the market.
Originally built in 1877, the dramatically renovated and updated contemporary features clean lines, open spaces, natural tones, and a floating staircase framed in jet black steel.
Three living floors include a formal living and dining room, kitchen with center island, study / library, and five bedrooms. The master suite, with a walk-in closet topped with a skylight and a view of the garden, occupies a private wing of the house.
Sliding glass walls open onto a wooded setting containing a guest house, a covered pavilion, a swimming pool and a spa and a tennis court. A boathouse and direct access to the nearby Lane Cove River is also found on the one acre lot.
Ken Jacobs of Christie’s International Realty was the listing agent.
Blanchett, 46, is known for her Oscar-winning performances in “The Aviator” (2004) and “Blue Jasmine” (2013). She is expected to play Lucille Ball in an upcoming biopic written by Aaron Sorkin.
Upton, 49, previously worked as an artistic director for the Sydney Theater Company for the past five years. Among his adaptations for the production were “Hedda Gabler”, “Don Juan” and “Children of the Sun”.
